Across the Netherlands to Rotterdam

Thursday 31st July

Day 50, 1960 miles in total.

On Saturday,  we crossed back into the Netherlands just West of Bunde and the North Sea Cycle Route became the LF10b. With the wind mostly behind us, we enjoyed easy riding going SSW through countryside and villages on good paths towards Afsluitdijk.

On Monday, we crossed this 20 mile dyke over an inlet at an average of 16mph,  feeling very sorry for all the determined cyclists going the other way, battling against the wind.

On the other side of the dyke, agriculture gave way to sand dunes and nature reserve and a constant stream of all sorts of cyclists...tourists, day trippers, beach goers, all rolling along the undulating path of laid bricks. We broke our journey for the occasional fuel stop...coffee and apple cake being a favourite.

We decided to stop off in Delft before heading to the ferry and spent our last night in Best Western luxury. We enjoyed wandering around the busy old town...another very photogenic place.

Today, we finished our tour with a 20 mile meander to Rotterdam Europort and a final pull up the winding 11% ferry ramp...
